A bold dialogue between history and modern living, set within a Georgian home in Devon.
In collaboration with an architect and kitchen design company - Sapphire Spaces, the brief was to reimagine the Victorian addition for modern family living, while honouring the fabric of the past. With every detail subject to heritage consent, the process became an exercise in creativity, patience, and precision.
Inspired by the utilitarian grace of old manor house kitchens, the design sought to layer modern function within a historic frame. Original flagstones and exposed brickwork were carefully preserved, their texture anchoring the new interventions. A bespoke stainless-steel bench brings a quiet industrial edge, while laser-textured oak joinery adds warmth and tactility. Tom Dixon lighting introduces a sculptural glow, softening the rigor of the architecture.
Approved to replace replica sash windows, the new Crittall doors invite natural light to stream through, opening the space to its courtyard and transforming how itβs experienced throughout the day.
A runner-up in the UK KBB Magazine Kitchen Awards, the project stands as proof that heritage buildings can evolve gracefully β that with sensitivity and vision, the past and present can coexist.
